It took me many years to understand this as a developer.

You can be technically excellent.

You can help many people.

You can share things that truly add value.

And still, not everyone will like you.

There will always be someone who criticizes.

There will always be someone who thinks you are “selling out.”

There will always be someone uncomfortable with your visibility.

And that's okay.

Personal branding isn't about pleasing everyone.

It's about being found by the right people.

If no one is criticizing you, you’re probably not being seen by anyone.

If you want to improve your personal brand as a dev, start with this:

  • Speak within your projects

You don’t need to give a talk at a conference. Start by explaining technical decisions, sharing learnings, or proposing improvements.

  • Contribute to Open Source

It exposes you to real code, real feedback, and people outside your bubble.

  • Create content

You don’t need to be an influencer. Just document what you learn, what you break, and what you fix.

Visibility opens doors that code alone often cannot.
